Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC), headquartered in Johnson, Vermont, officially launched its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project in October. The kickoff meeting, held at VEC headquarters, marked the beginning of an initiative to enhance grid management for the cooperative’s nearly 33,000 members across eight counties.

Throughout the project, the cooperative will collaborate with NRTC to deploy approximately 40,633 meters, modernizing the cooperative’s 2,880 miles of line spanning 2,056 square miles. The recent kickoff meeting brought together key team members from VEC, NRTC, and Itron, highlighting the strong partnership driving this initiative.

This project aligns with VEC’s mission to provide efficient, reliable, and innovative service while advancing its strategic goal of implementing a next-generation AMI system. System acceptance testing is scheduled to begin in early 2025, marking a key milestone toward building a smarter, more resilient grid.
